The RSA brief: "Creating an inclusive world"

Exploring the nature of communication across the language and cultural barrier and eager to explore a solution that isn't technological for numerous reasons (environmental, power and complexity to users being just a few), 'Symbolic' became an study into how to communicate in foreign countries without the cultural and language barrier.

The solution stemmed from an investigation into what constitutes human interaction and communication and how to create a universal language that operates without either party in the conversation needing prior knowledge. Using icons and symbolic imagery as building blocks to communicate (harkening back to to ancient civilisations whose languages were built on and reliant upon symbols), a simple and effective means of communication could be created for the inclusion of all.
